My Beers

Here I'll talk about the different beers I've brewed and drank over the years.

Let's start at the beginning.
The first beer I ever made was a brown ale. I followed the directions in the kit to the letter and it turned out better than I had expected. A bit basic, nothing special, but totally drinkable. I fell in love instantly. "This brew kit was the best gift anyone has ever given me" was the first thing that came to mind after tasting my first home brew. That was 4 years ago and it still rings true.

From the very next brew I started experimenting with the kits a little.  I would double, some times triple, the amount of hops required.  Add extra sugars or honey for more alcohol content and flavor.  Tried fermenting with extra hops and had a mishap with some oak chips.  I've even gone as far as adding beef and peanut butter to stouts and porters.  And almost all of these turned out very well.

My favorite fallback beer to brew that always turns out well would have to be my Honey Brown.  I have also become quite fond of my Pale Ale's as well.

As for beers that I've had from other breweries, I like just about everything I've had from Southern Tier Brewing Co. and Great Lakes Brewing Co. as well.

These days I am brewing all grain batches and have more variables to worry about during the brew process.  It seems that every time I brew all grain, something goes wrong.  My last two brews were all equipment problems instead of human error, so that's a step in the right direction.  I also have some new equipment on the way that should help a lot with brews to come.  Lately I have also tried honing in on a select few types of beer.  I am looking to create original recipes and hope to enter them in local competitions.  After that I hope to open a micro brewery with a few home brewing friends of mine.
